Pokeno is located in the northern region of New Zealand’s North Island; the distillery sits in a lush valley surrounded by volcanic hills.
We take great pride in conducting the entire production process—including bottling—at our own distillery, and in having New Zealand’s only barrel-making facility on the distillery grounds.
Pokeno is a family-owned, independent company founded by Matt and Celine Jones.
The distillery was established to produce only the finest, most innovative, and creative single malts that reflect the climate and culture of Aotearoa, New Zealand.

NEW ZEALAND SINGLR MALT WHISKY POKENO ORIGIN
- Pokeno Origin celebrates our unique place
in the world. - Produced from the finest local barley, and unrushed through fermentation and distillation to enhance body and flavour, we mature it only in first fill bourbon casks. It is an incredibly sweet and round whisky, with beautiful citrus, honey, grapefruit and creamy toffee notes, giving way to a complex and lingering finish.。

NEW ZEALAND SINGLR MALT WHISKY POKENO DISCOVERY
- Pokeno Discovery celebrates our unique place
in the world. - First we carefully select and blend parcels of stock which have been fully matured in first fill bourbon, Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez Casks.
We then lay these back down in cask to allow them to marry perfectly together. It is a rich and complex whisky, with beautiful notes of dark chocolate, black forest gateau, ripe cherries and sweet citrus, giving way to a rich, smooth and incredibly long finish.

NEW ZEALAND SINGLR MALT WHISKY POKENO ALCHEMY
- The definition of Alchemy is
"a magical process of creation
and combination". - Here we have combined some of our oldest whiskies, which have been fully matured in 6 cask types ( Pedro Ximenez Sherry butts and hogsheads, Light and medium toasted Virgin American Oak barrels, and ruby and tawny port barriques).
This is our boldest and richest release yet, bursting with notes of ripe red fruits, dark chocolate and Black forest gateau, leading into rich honey, caramel and vanilla beans, with a long rich and fruity finish.

Exploration Series
NEW ZEALAND SINGLR MALT WHISKY POKENO TOTARA CASK
- It is the only distillery in the world that uses
New Zealand-sourced
wood to make barrels. - In New Zealand’s only working Cooperage, Mike our Cooper has handcrafted what are the world’s first ever 200 litre totara barrels for maturing whisky, and given them a light toast and a light char. We are the only distillery in the world to craft barrels out of native NZ timber.
After a full maturation in first fill bourbon casks, we have transferred the whisky to the totara barrels for a second maturation period.
On the nose there are notes of creamy coconut, sweet scented sap, ripe white peach and freshly cut wood. In the mouth we discover bitter lemon, stone fruit and hints of dark chocolate for a long and sweet finish.

NEW ZEALAND SINGLR MALT WHISKY POKENO WINTER MALT
- This is a one-of-a-kind malt whiskey
crafted by distilling
chocolate-roasted malt, toffee-roasted malt,
and Manuka-smoked malt. - Our winter malt was inspired by the unique selection of New Zealand malts that we chose for our mashbill:
Manuka Smoked Malt: The Manuka tree is indigenous to New Zealand, and this is the world’s only manuka smoked malt. It has a smooth, sweet smokiness Chocolate Roasted Malt: This is specially roasted for us, and has lovely coffee and chocolate aromas.
Toffee Malt: This is a unique malt, roasted at very low temperatures and then caramelised. It adds honey and toffee flavours.
Laureate Distillers Malt: This is a very sweet and floral malt.
We have then aged the Winter malt in only the finest first-fill bourbon barrels.

NEW ZEALAND SINGLR MALT WHISKY POKENO LORD OF THE RINGS
RINGBEARERScheduled for release in October 2026
- A whiskey produced by “Pokeno Whisky Company” to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the release of the movie “The Lord of the Rings”.
- “Ringbearer” single malt whiskey is aged in several types of casks, including first-fill bourbon casks, virgin American oak casks, muscat casks, and manuka honey casks, and is packaged in distinctive packaging inspired by the movie.
Pokeno, which has garnered numerous prestigious accolades and global attention for its high-quality, New Zealand-sourced ingredients and its originality, is currently sold in more than 25 countries worldwide, including New Zealand, the United States, and Japan.
Regarding this launch, Matt Jones, founder and owner of Pokeno, stated that “The Ringbearer” will contribute to further raising the brand’s profile both domestically and internationally.
Matt added, “I am both honored and humbled to have the opportunity to launch a whisky from our brand that is deeply connected to New Zealand and inspired by such a renowned film series.
